چکیده

Postoperative serum bile acids in a patient with hepatectomy were determined by gasliquid chromatography. The results showed that two high peaks of serum bile acid levels were found respectively on the 2nd and 7th postoperative day, although serum bile acid levels returned to normal after the 15th postoperative day. The high peaks were considered to be due to the escape of necrotic hepatic intracellular bile acids into systemic blood stream, poor uptake of bile acids by hepatocytes and reabsorption of bile acids leaked from the residual liver into the peritoneal cavity.

Successful surgical management of an extrahepatic biliary cystadenocarcinoma

Extrahepatic bile duct cancer is an uncommon disease, and few cases are curable by surgery. We report a case of extrahepatic biliary cystadenocarcinoma (BCAC) associated with atrophy of the left hepatic lobe. A 54-year old male was admitted with painless obstructive jaundice and a hepatic palpable mass noticed one month before presentation. Liver functions tests were consistent with cholestatic...

The effect of berberine nanomicelles on hepatic cirrhosis in bile duct-ligated rats

Objective (s): The anti-fibrotic effect of chronic berberine (BBR) had demonstrated previously in a rat model of bile duct ligation (BDL). The aim of present study was to investigate hepatoprotective effect of BBR nanomicelles on liver cirrhosis induced by BDL in male rats.Materials and methods: After 21 days of drugs’ treatments, the serum and tissue levels of hepatic markers were measured and...

Risk Factors Associated with Surgical Site Infection after Hepatectomy for Liver Disease

The incidence of postoperative SSI (surgical site infection) after hepatic resection has decreased gradually with the refinement of surgical techniques and perioperative management. However, postoperative SSI still develops in a few patients after hepatic resection, leading to increased medical costs, longer hospitalization and a reduced quality of life in the postoperative course. The purpose ...

A Randomized Clinical Trial Comparing the Effect of Different Haemostatic Agents for Haemostasis of the Liver after Hepatic Resection

Introduction. Operative blood loss is still a great obstacle to liver resection, and various topical hemostatic agents were introduced to reduce it. The aim of the current study is to evaluate effects of 3 different types of these agents. Methods. In this randomized clinical trial, 45 patients undergoing liver resection were assigned to receive TachoSil, Surgicel, and Glubran 2 for controlling ...

Vertical sleeve gastrectomy reduces hepatic steatosis while increasing serum bile acids in a weight-loss-independent manner

OBJECTIVE Our objective was to investigate the role of bile acids in hepatic steatosis reduction after vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG). DESIGN AND METHODS High fat diet (HFD)-induced obese C57Bl/6 mice were randomized to VSG, Sham operation (Sham), Sham operation with pair feeding to VSG (Sham-PF), or nonsurgical controls (Naïve). All mice were on HFD until sacrifice. Mice were observed pos...
